WHEN YOU ARRIVE

Our church service begins at 10:00 am.  When you arrive, you will be greeted at the door and provided with a copy of our announcements page which we call “Life and Work of the Church”.  You will be offered a stick-on name tag. Most times our worship services are projected and you can easily follow the order of service which will be on screen. Services last for about one hour.  We invite you to join us for coffee and fellowship at the  conclusion of the service.

COMMUNION SERVICES

The first Sunday of each month includes the Sacrament of Holy Communion.  This is a re-enactment of the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples.  He offered bread and wine as symbols of his life given for others.  We share grape juice and bread or gluten-free rice crackers.  The United Church of Canada has an open table.  This means that anyone who feels called in their heart to partake of this holy feast is welcome to do so.  This includes children.  It is not necessary to be a member of the church in order to participate.

What is the communion service like?

The minister and the people take turns reading the story of things Jesus did for people.  We remember the Last Supper, the death and resurrection of Jesus and give thanks for his living presence in our lives.  We remember how Jesus broke the bread and poured the wine and shared them with his followers, saying “Do this in remembrance of me”.  The minister breaks the bread and pours the grape juice, servers join her at the front of the church and the people are invited to come forward, a row at a time.  They take a piece of bread or cracker, dip it in the grape juice and eat it and return to their seats.  If you prefer not to participate, you may remain in your seat. After every one is served, the communion ends with a prayer.

FEEDING THE MISSION BEARS

Also on the first Sunday of each month, during the last hymn, we “feed the Mission Bears”.  Children from the Sunday Children's Program circulate with “mission bears” (former honey jars shaped like bears) collecting loose change for The Mission and Service Fund of The United Church of Canada.  Donations to the M&S Fund support many United Church initiatives across Canada and around the world, including disaster relief.
