Let us pray:

The story of our faith reminds us that Jesus courageously faced deep personal pain including the pain of rejection, the pain of betrayal and the pain of death. We acknowledge and confess that we often ignore or mask our own pain, let alone the pain of others. Help us become aware of the pain we hold and that holds us. (Time of silent reflection)

O God, heal and forgive us.

The story of our faith reminds us that Jesus walked a deeply faithful and costly path, often in the company of people rejected and shunned, a path that resulted in deep conflict with the rulers of his day. We acknowledge and confess that our path is often one that is the one of least resistance, a path that overlooks those on the margins and maintains the status quo. Make visible to us the path we are taking as well as the one You call us to take. (Time of silent reflection)

O God, heal and forgive us.

The story of our faith reminds us that as Jesus died, his friends and followers were scattered and that his life’s work seemed to have been lost and in vain, but in reality was the beginning of a new world. We acknowledge and confess our desire to cling to what we know and what we have believing it to be the only future. Help us to see what we can and must allow to die. (Time of silent reflection)

O God, heal and forgive us.

We offer these our prayers in Jesus’ name.
