Welcome to our new feature. Every month, we will share some of the new and exciting things
that are happening in our church, and wider church communities. We hope you will find life and hope in these stories.
Approved by councilors at last summer’s 43rd General Council Meeting, The United Church of Canada took a giant leap into the future with a brand new structure. On January 1, 2019, The United Church of Canada moved away from the four-court system, used since 1925, to a new more streamlined 3-court system, as well as a number of other initiatives to ensure the continuation of our ground-breaking work as the United Church of Canada.
As a result, Devon United Church becomes part of a new region called the Northern Spirit Region.
One of the regional council’s purposes is “encouraging and engaging in joining our collective hearts, voices, and resources to witness to the gospel and vision of Jesus for a compassionate and just society, both in Canada and around the world.”
As in the previous structure, we will still elect a representative to represent us on the Northern Spirit Regional Council. Along with representatives from other congregations, you can be in on the ground floor to help with the re-shaping of this United Church of ours. If you would be interested in serving in this role, please be in touch with board member Sharon McCann (780-987-3922).
Watch for more information coming in the following weeks. Also, The United Church of Canada’s website (www.united-church.ca) has numerous articles on every aspect of the new structure and procedures. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to talk to Rev. Dirk. 780-667-5768.
