“Where you go, I will go, and where you stay I will stay.
Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
- Ruth 1: 16 NIV
Devon United Church is a wonderful place to celebrate your wedding day. Imagine an airy, open space with light beaming through tall stained glass windows, made warm and intimate by soaring open beam construction. Imagine your guests seated comfortably on elegant red padded chairs, your special music enhanced by the superior acoustics created by large BC fir beams. Even in your formal wedding attire, you and your guests will be comfortable throughout our air-conditioned building.
Our minister will want to meet you to discuss your wedding, to plan the service, and to explore with you, your relationship and your goals for Christian married life together. Please make an appointment through the church office. Our minister will review some choices for your wedding ceremony. Your choices will reflect your joy, your commitment and your faith.
If you decide to be married at Devon United Church, you will need to book the day and time with the minister, who will seek Worship Committee approval. A non-refundable deposit of $100, deductible from the total cost, will then secure your booking.
a) You will require a Marriage License, which can be obtained up to 90 days before your wedding. Please deliver the license along with your full payment to the church office no later than four weeks before your wedding day.
b) You will require two witnesses, 18 years or older to sign your Marriage Registration at the wedding.
c) You will be expected to find your own musician(s) and negotiate the honorarium. The minister or church office can make suggestions if you wish. The minister’s approval is required for all music selections to be played or sung at your wedding – whether live or recorded.
d) We will schedule a wedding rehearsal one or two days before the wedding. All members of the wedding party including ushers should be present. Please be on time as other rehearsals may be scheduled following yours.
e) Photographs and videos are permitted after consultation with the minister. Photographers are welcome to attend the rehearsal.
f) No confetti maybe used on church property. Pew markers or decorations may be attached with elastic or ribbons only.
We require that you participate in a marriage preparation course. Because marriage is a life-changing commitment, you will find the skills you will learn in this class helpful to ensuring the long-term success of your marriage relationship. The church office or minister can provide names and phone numbers of appropriate counselling centres in the area.
Since you are requesting a United Church of Canada service, the incumbent United Church minister will normally be conducting the service. If the minister is away, attempts will be made to find a suitable United Church replacement. Special requests to have others officiate or co-officiate may be made through the minister.
The church seats 150 people on the main floor and another 35-40 people in the loft. We are not set up to serve food or refreshments after the service but can suggest suitable local facilities.
If you choose to hold your wedding in Devon United Church, the wedding fee is:
