Bissell Update

Bissell Update

For many years, thanks to the tremendous efforts of Louis and Lois Hedberg and Bob and Bev Matthews, and the support of many sandwich makers, and cookie bakers, and food servers, Devon United Church has maintained a long standing relationship with the Bissell Center in Edmonton, by serving a yearly lunch for the people of the inner-city.

However, Bissell’s needs are changing as they enter into a merger with The Mustard Seed to consolidate the services they both provide to the homeless in Edmonton. While there will still be a lunch program, they are not yet sure what it will look like.

Much thought and consideration has been given to both our desire to keep helping Bissell as well as our reduced ability to continue providing the lunch as we have in the past. A meeting of congregation members after church on Sunday February 18, 2018 decided that we will no longer prepare and serve the Bissell lunch, but we will continue the conversation with Bissell on how we can best help them, and most importantly ...

We will continue to support Bissell!
Several ideas are in the works, including a fundraising concert
and a fundraising Sunday. Stay tuned!
