In preparation for the launch of Mitchell Moise's book - "A Letter to Cody", we invite you to join in a discussion and exploration of what we can do in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's report.
Tuesday, June 13, 7 - 8:15 pm:
In 1493, a decree from the pope established the “Doctrine of Discovery,” It became the basis for how Europeans have treated Aboriginal peoples in the Americas for more than 500 years. We will discuss this concept and its consequences by reviewing some history, reading some of the document itself and watching some video clips.
Tuesday, June 20, 7 - 8:15 pm:
Building on last week’s discussion of The Doctrine of Discovery, we will talk about the United Church of Canada’s policies and practices around relationships with First Nations peoples. We will also explore what we can do in response to the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada published in 2015.
